Area Information

College Station, the home of Texas A&M University, is centrally located in the heart of Texas:
  • 90 miles northwest of Houston
  • 100 miles northeast of Austin
  • 170 miles south of Dallas

College Station and its twin city, Bryan, have a combined population of more than 140,000. There is a thriving cultural life with both classical and popular music programs and theatrical performances offered by touring groups and local performers. The University also boasts a growing art collection, much of it in galleries at the Memorial Student Center.

The handsome atrium area of the Horticultural/Forest Science Building houses one of the most interesting art collections. The collection was willed to the university by the late M. "Buddy" Benz, founder of the Benz School of Floral Design, which offers short courses in floral design.

The area also has excellent public schools, modern shopping facilities including a major mall, hotels, restaurants, several golf courses, swimming pools and nearby recreational areas.
