Professional Summary
Jim Kamas served as an associate professor and AgriLife Extension Specialist in the Department of Horticultural Sciences from 1996 to 2024. During this time Mr. Kamas served as a farm advisor to fruit growers across the state with an emphasis in the Texas Hill Country. He conducted applied research to address the needs of commercial and home fruit producers. His activities included evaluation of Pierce’s disease resistant varieties and rootstocks, chemical and cultural control of cotton root rot and the evaluation of fruit varieties in sustainable orchard settings.
Kamas received his B.S. in horticulture from Texas A&M in 1977 and his M.S. in horticulture from Texas A&M working on perennial food crops. He served as the Extension team leader of the Lake Erie Regional Grape Program for Cornell University from 1988 to 1996.
