Dr. Wilkerson is a Member of the Graduate Faculty at Texas A&M University, and can serve as a Chair, Co-chair or Member of Graduate Student Advising Committees.
Dr. Wilkerson’s areas of research are foliage, flowering and bedding plants with an emphasis on nutrition, culture, production, and applied technology. Dr. Wilkerson has a 100% appointment with Texas Cooperative Extension. In this role, he works closely with growers throughout the state on cultural and management problems. His primary interests deal with environmental issues concerning the nursery/floral industry. These include: surface and groundwater protection, waste-water reuse, irrigation management for conservation, solid waste management and recycling of agricultural plastics.
Dr. Wilkerson provides leadership for the Texas A&M University Horticultural Gardens. This student managed and maintained facility is a valuable resource for teaching, research and outreach activities within the Department of Horticultural Sciences. Emphasis areas include environmental stewardship, new plant introductions, as well as innovations in landscape installation and maintenance. This unique faciility offers students the opportunity to study and learn about public gardening while enhancing the quality of life in the Brazos Valley.

Texas Nursery and Landscape Association Arp and Staff Awards
Dr. Wilkerson received the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association’s Staff award in 1997 for his contributions to industry and the assocication. In 2004 Dr. Wilkerson was presented TNLA’s Arp award for outstanding service and dedication to the Texas Nursery/Floral/Landscape industry (see photo above; Don (l) is presented the award by TNLA President Eddy Edmondson(r).
