Ed Hellman received his B.S. and M.S. in Horticulture from the University of Illinois in 1977 and 1980, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Plant Science from the University of Arkansas in 1982. Dr. Hellman has served on the Texas A&M faculty as an Extension Specialist at the Lubbock AgriLife Research & Extension Center since 2001 and is a member of the graduate faculty at Texas A&M University.  He holds a joint appointment as Professor of Viticulture in the Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University.

 Dr. Hellman’s Extension activities include development of the Texas Winegrape Networkwebsite as the cornerstone of the viticulture extension program, and the Vineyard Doctor online diagnostic system. He also established the Texas Viticulture Certificate Program and the Great Vineyards Program. His research program studies the physiology of grapevine adaptation to climate, variety and rootstock evaluation, and the use of GIS for vineyard site selection.
