Dr. Oscar Riera-Lizarazu is a Professor and Basye Endowed Chair in Rose Genetics in the Dept. of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University. Dr. Riera-Lizarazu works on polyploid genetic analysis, understanding the genetic basis of traits in landscape roses, and the use of genomics-based methods for germplasm improvement.

Dr. Riera-Lizarazu has more than 25 years of national and international research experience in plant genetics, cytogenetics, and breeding, having held senior-level positions at Dow AgroSciences and Corteva Agriscience, director-level positions at the Intl. Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT, CGIAR), India, and as a tenured faculty in the Dept. of Crop and Soil Science at Oregon State University. Dr. Riera-Lizarazu has also held research scientist positions at the International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center (CIMMYT, CGIAR) in Mexico and at the Bolivian Institute of Agricultural Technology (IBTA) in Bolivia.

Dr. Riera-Lizarazu received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Plant Science from Utah State University and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from the University of Minnesota, USA.
