Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Horticultural Sciences offers two undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and a Bachelor of Arts in Horticulture. Our flexible degree plans enable students opportunities to develop programs tailored to their unique career goals. The horticulture industry is one of the largest agricultural industries in the State and offers graduates a multitude of diverse career opportunities.

Horticultural Sciences Program Options

B.S. Horticulture

This degree provides the knowledge and skills needed for production, management and marketing of fruit, vegetable, landscape, floriculture and other ornamental crops, or designing, building and maintaining residential or small-scale commercial landscapes.

B.A. Horticulture

This degree blends traditional horticulture with the benefits derived from the human association with plants, pairing a horticulture degree with electives in social sciences, business, agricultural journalism, education, art and design.

Horticulture Minor

The Department of Horticulture at Texas A&M University offers an undergraduate minor in Horticulture which provides students with a concentration of courses that focus on areas of horticulture and floriculture.

Certificates in Horticultural Sciences

Undergraduate certificates provide students with a focused and specialized education in a specific field of study, allowing them to develop valuable skills and knowledge. These certificates can enhance a student’s resume and make them more competitive in the job market, as they demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Additionally, undergraduate certificates offer an opportunity for career exploration and can serve as a stepping stone towards further education or advanced degrees.

Floral Design Certificate

The Floral Design Certificate, offered by the Department of Horticultural Sciences, contains 16 hours of concentrated study in the area of floral design for events, parties and weddings.

Landscape Management Certificate

The Landscape Management Certificate, offered by the Department of Horticultural Sciences, contains 15 hours of concentrated study in the areas of landscape design, construction, and maintenance, turfgrass management, and landscape business operations.

Viticulture and Enology Certificate

The Viticulture and Enology Certificate, offered by the Department of Horticultural Sciences, contains 15 hours of concentrated study in the areas of viticulture, pre- and post-fermentation winemaking processes, wine etiquette, and sensory evaluation.
